Batteur de jazz depuis plus de 20 ans, Richard Héry est devenu le partenaire de nombreux groupes, notamment Eric Chapelle Trio (1989), l’Alambic Impériale (1993), Vincent Le Quang (2002), Autrement Dit (2003), Aligot Elements (1999), Emile Sanchis (2000), le Quatuor Ebène (2005)...
Compositeur et improvisateur autodidacte, son approche singulière du jazz le conduit à devenir directeur artistique du label Jazz Composite de l’agence culturelle Auvergne Musique Danse (2004) et depuis 1990, co-directeur pédagogique, avec Eric Chapelle, de stages de jazz et de musiques improvisées. Egalement membre du « Batik Soundpainting Orchestra » (selon la méthode Walter Thompson), il prépare plusieurs créations pour le printemps 2012.
Son jeu de batterie tout en finesse a séduit le Quatuor Ebène qu’il accompagne, depuis 2005, dans leur projet « Fiction », donnant naissance, en octobre 2010 à un album du même nom avec comme invités Natalie Dessay, Stacey Kent et Luz Cazal. Ce programme a déjà été joué dans de nombreuses salles et villes d’Europe (Konzerthaus auf Wien, Wigmore Hall of London, Les Folie Bergères à Paris, Berlin, Munich, Dublin, Nice …). L’aventure continue à travers une tournée aux Etats Unis en novembre 2012, ainsi qu’un nouvel album intitulé « Brazil » en 2014 avec Stacey Kent et Bernard Lavilliers, suivi d’une tournée Européenne.
Parallèlement à la batterie, il pratique la clarinette basse, ainsi qu’une multitude d’instruments de sa conception. Il se passionne, pour leur construction  dans de divers matériaux, et plus particulièrement la terre cuite, avec le plasticien Jean Vincent et l’association Ecart (1998).
Fort de son expérience dans les techniques de prise de son et les outils informatiques musicaux, il participe en 2002 à la création de la scénographie sonore du Musée du Col du Béal, (sommet des Hauts de Chaumes du Forez), et en 2011 à la composition de la bande son du musée du Puy Mary dans le Cantal.

Ouvert aux arts du spectacle vivant, il intègre en 2003 la Compagnie Fol a Pik, sous la direction de Christophe Egrot, avec qui, en 2007, il réalise le spectacle jeune public «Chemin de sable ». Il intervient dans le Compagnie Juste pour 7 Fois (2006) en tant que musicien créant un pont sonore entre deux danseuses et un ordinateur. Il accompagne des comédiens, dont Philippe Malassagne de la Compagnie Hooly Gooly, au fil de lectures publiques dans des lieux insolites (Festival Par Monts et par Mots de 2008 à 2015).

Since 2005, projects with the Ébène Quartet, where Jazz improvisation rubs classical writing, reveal his very subtle drumming and counterpoints.

In parallel to the battery, he practices much traditional percussion such as the Indian tabla, the udus and Tarams (percussion in earthenware), bass clarinet, and a multitude of instruments of his design. He has a passion for building instruments of various materials, especially clay with the artist Jean Vincent and the association Ecarts (1998).

For 15 years, he developed a perpetual quest for unusual sounds and accessories, as well as research techniques and game very personal. Through this, he gives an extra dimension to any musical projects in which he participates. In 2002, he contributed to the sound staging of the Museum of the Col du Béal, in the Natural Park of Livradois Forez.

Open to the performing arts, he joined the Company Fol A Pik in 2003, under the direction of Christopher Egrot, with whom, in 2007, he prepared the solo show "Sandy Road- Chemin de sable". It intervenes in the Company Juste Pour 7 Fois (2006) as a sound musician and inventor of MIDI sounds, creating a realistic game between two dancers and acomputer. It also assists the actor Philippe Malassagne from the Company Hooly Gooly over public readings.
